After the release of Spanish singer/songwriter Alejandro Sanz's
latest single 'Looking for Paradise'
on Sep. 22, here's the video of the song which features a
duet by the Madrid-born artist and R&B songstress Alicia Keys.
Alejandro and Alicia met in Brooklyn
(New York) to shoot 'Looking for Paradise': "A song that speaks
about two different worlds. The search for paradise consists in
communicating with people who speak other languages," says Alejandro. "We
are all looking for a place where we can feel better and I think
that's what this song achieves," adds Alicia.
The video was directed by two prestigious producers:
Spanish-native Pedro
Castro and British Phill Griffin, who have already worked together with
other artists such as Bon Jovi, Michelle Williams, Jeezy
and Maná. Griffin is also the usual producer of Amy Winehouse's
videos.
'Looking for Paradise' is the first single from "Paraíso Express"
(Paradise Express), Alejandro Sanz's anticipated eighth studio album, which
was released on Nov. 10, and which was produced by Puerto
Rican Tommy Torres. "Working with Tommy has been very
easy," points out
Alejandro. "He studied at Berklee and has a solid musical
background. I told him I wanted a very British pop sound
with that rock touch that the songs themselves require.
Tommy did a perfect reading in that sense. Everything went very smooth,
very organically."
The album, which was recorded in Florida and
Santa Monica, California, features A-list musicians. "I had worked with many of them before. Such is the case with Dan Warner (guitar) or Vinnie Colaiuta (drums,
an old member of Frank Zappa's mythical band). Others I had
heard of before, such as Nathan East
on bass, whose playing I've always liked, or Matt Rollings on piano,
whose playing fascinated me," explains Alejandro.
"Paraíso Express," which includes nine other songs, was mixed by Bob Clearmountain, one of the
world's top sound engineers, who is also behind some of the best
Rolling Stone, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul McCartney albums.
"For
this project I've worked on the melody first
(Alejandro is well known for writing the lyrics first and then
working on the music, which usually results in long-winded
phrases). It's a more rock oriented album than the previous ones, more
elegant and with more optimistic lyrics, with a happier and more
rhythmic spirit," the artist concludes. |
