Here's 'Uprising'
Muse's new single from their recently-released fifth studio album "The
Resistance". Recorded in Italy during the last year, it has been
produced by the group itself with mixes by Mark 'Spike' Tent. Muse will
be touring Europe and Spain next November to present the songs of this
new collection of songs live.
In terms of sound and sonic vision, "The Resistance" is the
group's most ambitious work having taken their space-rock-funk riffs to
a higher level. The reason being that, for Muse, continuing to tread
within a hit-making formula makes no sense.
The fortunate few that have been able to attend the rehearsals in
preparation for the imminent tour say that the new songs sound "simply
huge," although Muse will also include softer tunes such as 'I Belong To
You.'
It is perhaps the lyrics where "The Resistance" has more in common with
their two previous albums. 'MK Ultra' talks about topics already tackled
in songs as 'Ruled By Secrecy' ("Absolution") as are the CIA's
mind control programs of the 1950s. 'United States Of Eurasia' is influenced
by the works of Zbigniew
Brzezinski,
Polish writer and advisor to ex United States President Jimmy Carter. "In
his book "The Grand Chessboard," Brzezinski states that the
Eurasian regions (Europe, Asia and the Middle East) must be controlled
by America to assure the oil supply," says Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. "It
speaks clearly about his vision of the world as a chessboard. This,
combined with the obvious Orwellian reference to the Eurasian state in
"1984", inspired the song's lyrics."
The unique violence of the modern era, expressed in songs such as 'Assassin'
("Black
Holes and Revelations") or the hit single 'Time Is Running Out' ("Absolution"),
returns in
'Uprising'. "It is supposedly hooligans singing against the
international banking situation!" points out Matt.
On the brink of launching their new world tour, Muse ask critically what
it means to be a band nowadays and what it is like to be a citizen in
these times.
