What immediate challenges does Spanish fashion face? One of the most important and immediate is the need for a stronger
international presence of Spanish fashion and its designers. Not only to make it known as
design, for which it is already known, but to let the world know that behind us there is
an industry capable of responding to the demand for our products.

Maybe we are all to blame for having relaxed our attention to these issues. We have been taking care of our own businesses and problems instead of having thought of this Association before, and having taken the reigns of certain things that were being done with us, yet not COUNTING on us. Little by little things have deteriorated and they have had to reach rock bottom for us to take measures. Have you already set a date for the presentation of your autumn/winter 1999-2000 collection? Yes, it will be on the 17th of March. Maybe two or three other designers will coincide both on the date and the venue when presenting their collections. But the logical thing, and what we are basically planning, is that each one of us do so where we most please. What we want to do, in some way, is to particularize our presentations although we are more united than ever. I believe that we have to be united in these things and not in what they have wanted to bring us together. They want us to act sheepishly and we are no sheep. We are people with our own individuality, our own distinct personality, which, at the same time, share common interests. |
