Madrid (Spain) - Venezuelan designer, Carolina Herrera, has launched CH, a new label this spring. Targeted at a wider audience, CH maintains the same level of sophistication as her signature line, but at more affordable prices.

The project - a partnership with the Domínguez brothers (of Adolfo Domínguez label fame), whose company STL will manufacture and distribute the collections worldwide from Galicia (Spain) - has begun with the opening of five stores in Spain and Portugal (Ourense, Salamanca, Lisbon and Madrid.)

CH recently held a presentation for the press at their first Madrid store (located on posh Calle Serrano #78), that counted with the presence of the designer's daughter, Carolina Adriana, who has followed the project closely from its beginning. As Herrera, herself, explains, "CH represents me and my daughters. It reflects a spirit, an attitude towards life suitable for a young or mature woman."

CH woman is a well-put-together collection where all garments can be mixed and matched and be adapted to different occasions according to each woman's style. For this purpose, the collection features pure lines, excellent fabrics (gauze, satin, silk, organza, cotton and linen) and good cuts. For this spring/summer, Carolina Herrera has based her designs in rich colors, which include red, fuchsia and mauve. Amongst the must-have pieces a red silk strapless dress with a price tag of 150.000 Ptas. (US$765.00).

On the other hand, CH marks the Latin American designer's first venture into the world of men's fashion. It includes shirts, casual and knitwear lines..., "For a man of many interests, with a clear aesthetic criterion and a certain taste for fashion," comments Herrera.

Claudia La Valle, PR representative of the firm in Madrid told Fashionclick.com, "The men's collection, as well as its accessory line - with a young and trendy look - are being well-received taking into consideration it is Carolina Herrera's first venture into this area."

Plans for the next two years include opening more than 40 CH stores in Europe, which will be followed by others in large cities both in the US and Asia. In Spain, the next stores to be inaugurated will be in Valencia, Oviedo, Bilbao and Barcelona. Its flagship store is set to open in Madrid - also on Calle Serrano - at the end of this summer. This location will also feature Carolina Herrera's signature line. Top of page

Amsterdam, (Netherlands) - Gucci Group N.V. and designer Stella McCartney announced at the beginning of the month that they have reached an agreement for the development of a new label, Stella McCartney, as a global luxury brand focused on women's ready-to-wear and accessories.

The agreement foresees the opening of directly operated stores in the key fashion capitals of the world over the course of the next few years, as well as distribution through selected luxury wholesale channels.

Under the terms of the partnership, the new business will be owned jointly by Ms. Stella McCartney and Gucci Group and operated as a separate and independent company under the Gucci Group umbrella.

Ms. McCartney said, "I am incredibly excited about the decision to launch my own label. In Gucci Group, I have found a partner with the skills necessary to make this business a success. I have always wanted to start my own label and I feel ready for the challenge."
