Raquel will be our model this time. She is 19 years old and has just finished Computer Science, although, as she tells us, she would love to be a professional makeup artist.

The person doing the makeup will be our usual collaborator, José Ramón 'Mon' Romano. He is both a makeup artist and a hairstylist who has been working in this business for more than 7 years and, among others, has made-up: the Spanish First Lady, Ana Botella; flamenco dancer Joaquín Cortés; fashion designer Amaya Arzuaga; and international models such as Teresa Lourenço (who recently appears alongside Lenny Kravitz in his video "Again",) Adriana Skleranikova or model/actress Michele Hicks. His work appears frequently on catalogues, magazines and television. He has also been part of the makeup team at the Spanish Cibeles fashion shows for more than six years.

We both study our model's features to prepare the first makeover.

First Steps

Before anything, it is important to start with a clean and moisturized complexion. José Ramón applies L'Oréal new HydraFresh Moisturizer. It will not only leave the skin ready for the makeup, it will also help it last longer.

Raquel has a flawless complexion, so Mon does not dedicate much time to covering imperfections such as pimples, spider veins, red spots, small scars or discoloration.

Once he has finished this step, he continues with...

Eyebrows –

The eyebrows are one of the most important features highlighted by this season's makeup trends. Therefore, it is important to know how to better groom them. Incorrectly plucked eyebrows - an error much seen especially among teenage women - can make the best makeup seem unflattering.

When tweezing your eyebrows, remember that its inner end should start immediately over the tear duct 1, and should end in the limit marked by the line that connects the external corner of your nose and the end of your eye 2.

José Ramón studies our model's eyebrows and determines she does not need practically any touch-ups. He limits his work to optimizing their shape. Given Raquel's face is oblong, it is especially flattered by eyebrows that are not very arched, such as she has them now, making her face seem wider. Obviously, this would not be the most indicated option if her face were round or square. In these cases, they should be pruned into an upswept shape, which has the effect of thinning the face. As always, your own features determine the procedure to follow.

Foundation –

Next, it is time to apply the color foundation to create a perfect canvas. For a more up-to-date look we use a very natural translucent one that completely blends-in with Raquel's skin: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Makeup in Natural Buff. For more mature women we recommend Estée Lauder Futurist Age Resisting Makeup SPF 15.

If your eyebrows are scarce or have bare spots, you can conceal this by filling them in with eye shadow or a brow pencil. Use a color that works best with your own brow color.

If you go for a brow pencil make sure to blend in the color well. This will avoid the harsh look of heavily drawn eyebrows.
