Josep Font Opens His First Store in Madrid

Madrid – On June 6th Catalonian designer Josep Font, winner of the L'Oréal Best Collection Prize at the Cibeles Autumn/Winter 2000-2001 shows, inaugurated his first store here on Calle Don Ramón de la Cruz.

The store, based on an idea and a design by Font, uses the building's original large openings as showcases. There, several handmade mannequins constructed with layers of cardboard showcase designs from his summer 2000 collection.

The space features green walls and an old floor that reminds us of the ones seen in old Mediterranean houses. As well as, a huge table with three legs and antique decorative pieces, as well as handmade hangers, a mixture of elements that clearly reflects the designer's signature love of unusual mixes, as is obvious in his fashion collections.

At the opening cocktail, which attracted much of Madrid's fashion clique, we saw Leonor Pérez Pita, Director of the Pasarela Cibeles; fashion journalist Carlos García Calvo; always-cool model and Spanish E! channel presenter Blanca Suelves; and Italian model Antonia dell'Atte, ex-wife of much-debated Count Lecquio among others.

Font is scheduled to receive the Spanish fashion magazine, Telva, "T" award very soon. Among the designers to have won before this recognition in the foreign designers' category are Gucci's Tom Ford and Valentino. Tope de la página
