Karma and Gypsy: New Bracelets and Necklaces from Majorica Barcelona (Spain) - The magic beads (bracelets of Tibetan origin that are said to grant beneficial and therapeutic powers) have gone from the wrists of celebrities such as Madonna, Richard Gere, Julia Roberts and Antonio Banderas unto the street. Majorica, Spain's largest grossing jewelry company, has taken from them the inspiration for their Karma collection this summer, creating five pearl bracelets and necklaces. The pearl, the world's most antique known gem, considered during centuries to be the most precious, and that for which this company is world renown, is a symbol of the moon. Due to the purity of its shape it is seen as enclosing all the cosmic power, thus serving as an amulet to its wearer. Majorica has assembled each of its bracelets and necklaces with pearls of different chromatic ranges and includes in them a small silver medal engraved with the symbol each represents. Their colors can all be combined amongst themselves, which allows wearing more than one bracelet or necklace at once. The five versions available, and their symbolism, are:
On
the other hand, and meant for the young crowd, the Mallorca-based
manufacturer also launches its Gypsy bracelets.
Inspired on the traditional gypsy ones, the collection consists of
four silver-bathed models with different colored pearls and includes a
variety of pieces such as tubes, pendants, nuggets or beads.

Barcelona (Spain) - Brazilian designer, Paula Feferbaum, now living in this Spanish city, creator of the Paulinha Rio label, loves fashion-forward and provocative looks. This, in no way means she shuns pieces which combine sexiness with innovative fabrics and textures. For summer 2000 she presents a collection named "Jetzabel Lost In The Future," thought for "an elegant, feminine woman of character." In it, the designer features high-tech fabrics in different styles that she divides in three lines: Hot Line, Basic and Paulinha Rio. Hot Line: is geared to the younger pack and includes tops, skirts, and honeycomb knit dresses in pastel hues, alongside guipure, which lend her pieces a neo-hippie chic touch. Also, 70's-inspired swimwear in vivid colors as well as others inspired in the punk look of the 80's accompanied by drapes and sporty cuts. Basic: dedicated to easy comfortable and easily combinable pieces such as pedal pushers, stretch jeans, tops and jackets. Paulinha Rio: is the line in which the designer really lets her imagination fly. Based on high-tech fabrics, she plays with futuristic and sporty looks using faux-suede in white, ice gray, aqua green and black in outfits much in the style of the 60's "Barbarella." She also includes white pieces done in a resin-treated cotton and nylon that lends them a paper-like effect for that futuristic/sporty look. Paulinha
Rio currently sells in Spain, Germany, England and the United States among
other countries.

Paris - For Max Herlant, make-up artist/creator for Bourjois, inventing make-up is a thrill. This summer he has conceived a modern, bold and exotic image for the French brand, one he considers ideal to accompany fashion inspired in the multi-colored ethnic mix. Renaissance Hippie is the name of this, Bourjois' new make-up. It is composed of a range of shades such as saffron, cinnamon, earth, and sand mixed with gold nuggets, which give light to the face, the eyes, the lips and the cheeks, achieving an image much in the line of the "flower-power" sixties. The
collection's highlights: its Effet 3D lipstick
in Miel Extatic (liquid amber gold) that give the lips a
transparent shine, and its Fard Pastel Joues blush
in Pêche Ensoleillée (a fruited blonde), which animates the cheeks with
a bronzed halo.
