Angel Sánchez From Architecture to Couture by Freddy Galiani

 

H
e is, without a doubt, one of the up-and-coming Latin American designers within the American fashion scene. His well-received spring/summer 2000 collection at New York's 7th On Sixth shows is the proof.

An architect turned fashion designer, Angel Sánchez (pronounced Ahn-hel Sanches) was born in Valera, a small Venezuelan town, where he soon came in contact with the couture world. "I was raised in a dress shop among mannequins and fabrics. My first inspiration was watching my mother, a magical seamstress, transform sketches into reality. After earning a degree in architecture, I noticed that I did not have the patience to see my work transformed into actual buildings, and it was then when I decided to apply my academic experience and my training as an architect to my passion for couture."
