General Sun Safety Tips

  1. Progressive sun exposure yields better results. Stay under the sun for no more than 20-30 minutes the first few days and use a product with a high SPF.

  2. Choose the protection factor that is right for your skin's phototype and apply it at least 20 minutes before going out, even if you are not going to the beach.

  3. Reapply the product every hour and after being in the water if the product is not waterproof.

  4. Remember clouds do not stop UV rays, and that sand, water and white walls reflect sunlight.

  5. Avoid sun exposure during peak sun hours: between 12 and 2 o'clock in the afternoon (solar time).

  6. Children and adolescents should be especially cautious when going out in the sun. Do not put children under 3 years old under direct sunlight.

  7. Protect your hair by applying specific UV filtering products.

  8. Speak to your doctor if you are taking medication to avoid any possible skin reactions.

  9. Do not forget eye protection. Use sunglasses with 100% UV filtering lenses.

  10. After each sun exposure apply after-sun products with a hydrating, soothing and regenerating effect.

  11. Drink a lot of liquid: mineral water and fruit juices to prevent dehydration. top of page

CHILDREN: PREVENTION IS THE KEY

Specialists insist that young skin is much more sensitive to sun damage than that of an adult, and that in an 80% of the cases the negative effects of the sun are produced before the person is 20 years old, although they do not appear until later on. This is due to the fact that the sun has a cumulative effect on the skin. The most recent studies state that two or more cases of intense sunburn during the first ten years of a person's life increase the risk of suffering a skin cancer by more than double, than if these were to happen during the rest of their life.

Prevention is key. It is recommended that babies less than 12 months old should not be exposed to direct sunlight. From that moment until they are 20 years old it is wise to take precautions: reduce the time they spend under the sun and always have them use a protection factor between 10 and 30. top of page
